How to Connect WordPress to RankScore

RankScore integrates directly with your WordPress site so you can publish articles without leaving the platform. This guide walks you through setting up the connection.

What You'll Need

  • Admin access to your WordPress site
  • Your WordPress site URL
  • Your WordPress admin username

Step 1: Generate a WordPress Application Password

Application Passwords are a built-in WordPress feature that lets external tools connect to your site securely, without exposing your main login password.

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
  2. Go to Users → Profile (or Users → All Users and select your admin account).
  3. Scroll down to the Application Passwords section.
  4. Enter a name for the password, such as RankScore , so you can identify it later.
  5. Click Add New Application Password.
  6. WordPress will display a password made up of several groups of characters separated by spaces. Copy this exactly as shown.

Keep this tab open or paste the password somewhere temporary. You won't be able to view it again after leaving the page.

Step 2: Connect Your Site in RankScore

  1. In RankScore, open the site you want to connect.
  2. Go to the WordPress integration settings.
  3. Enter the following details:
    • Website URL: Your site's root URL (for example, https://yourdomain.com ). Do not use the admin URL.
    • Username: Your WordPress admin username.
    • Application Password: The password you generated in Step 1.
  4. Click Connect.

RankScore will verify the credentials and confirm the connection.

Step 3: Sync Authors and Categories

Once connected, RankScore pulls in your WordPress authors and categories automatically so you can assign them to articles before publishing.

If you add new authors or categories in WordPress after connecting, you can refresh the list at any time by clicking Resync Authors and Categories in the integration settings.

Troubleshooting

Connection failed. Check that your Website URL is the root domain (https://yourdomain.com ), not https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin . Also confirm the username matches exactly and the Application Password was copied without missing characters.

Application Passwords section is missing. Some security plugins disable Application Passwords. Check your security plugin settings, or ask your host if this feature has been restricted.

New authors or categories aren't showing up. Click Resync Authors and Categories in the integration settings to refresh the list from WordPress.
